KAKARBHITTA, June 28: Around 50 houses have been inundated after a flood in Paliya Khola entered the squatters’ settlement in Mechinagar Municipality-12, Jhapa.

The victims have been forced to take shelter in their neighbors’ houses and public places.

“There is nowhere else to go since there is no land of our own,” said Tanka Bhattarai, a squatter displaced by the flood.

Three people were killed and dozens of families were displaced by flood a week ago in Jhapa. The flood inundated thousands of bighas of land in the district.

It has been reported that lack of proper drainage, timely repair of embankments and rampant plotting of lands has intensified the flood problem.
