5 feared dead in road accident

BAGLUNG, July 22: Five persons have gone missing after a taxi heading for Beni bazaar from Galeshwor plunged into Kaligandaki River near Galeshwor shrine of Beni, the district headquarters of Myagdi, on Friday.



According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dinesh Acharya, the identities of the four missing have been ascertained. [break]



They are taxi driver Bed Prakash Subedi, Gita Sherapunja and Spen Sherapunja, residents of Dagnam-4 in Myagdi and Dal Bahadur Tilija, a resident of Beg-4 in Myagdi. The identity of one remains unknown.



The missing persons are feared dead as police have not traced them till Friday evening.



“We only recovered the taxi (Ga 1 Ja 1239),” DSP Acharya said, adding, “The river might have swept them away.” DSP Acharya said the accident might have taken place due to the driver´s negligence as the road was not narrow or slippery.



Meanwhile, 19 persons were injured when a bus (Ga 1 kha 1545) met with an accident at Aabukhaireni-6 of Tanahu along the Prithvi highway.



Three of the injured are in critical condition. The bus fell about 100 meters after colliding with a mound that lay by the side of the road.
