The stray bomb exploded as students were busy playing in the school premises during their afternoon break. [break]
The deceased has been identified as Rajan Bohara, 10, a second grader in the school. One of the injured, Mohan Bohara, also studying in grade two, is in critical condition, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Panta.
Another injured has been identified as Amar Bohora, who is studying at grade one in the school. The name of one girl child injured in the explosion could not be known.
The injured students have been taken to a health camp being run at a local Bijgada village for treatment.
“It was afternoon. All students in the school had come out to play on the ground during the break. They happened to see a ball-like thing in a demolished building near the playground. They took the ball in the ground and began playing with it. But the ´ball´ went off, killing one and injuring three others,” narrated DSP Panta.
The school lies at a two-day walking distance from the district headquarters. A police team from Area Police Post in Bugal village has reached the incident site for investigation.
DSP Panta said there is a chance of similar incidents occurring again since many bombs planted or abandoned during the insurgency have yet to be defused.
