The Ministry said a total of 48 Maoist cadres were arrested in course of the strike. Home Ministry Spokesperson Laxmi Prasad Dhakal said that six persons were arrested in Dhangadi and Kanchanpur for creating obstructions, forcibly imposing the strike and vandalizing public property.Deputy Inspector General of Police Hemanta Pal said those involved in vandalism of public property would be subjected to legal action while others arrested for supporting and participating in enforcing the strike peacefully would be release after due process.
The same party also took out a peaceful rally from Shanti Batika in Ratnapark area demanding the government to immediately find an alternative to the problem faced by the people due to the blockade. The rally went through Bhadrakali, Sahid Gate and New Road before converging into a corner meeting at Bag Bazaar juncture. The participants shouted slogans against the Indian government.
CPN Maoist central member and former lawmaker Sharad Singh Bhandari lashed out at the Indian government for violating Nepal's transit rights as a landlocked country and urged the government to seek an immediate solution to people's suffering.
He added that businessmen involved in black market trading of essential commodities including medicine, cooking gas and petrol would be taken under control and handed over to the government for further action. RSS
