UDAYAPUR, Mar 4: A nationwide general strike by the Laxman Tharu-led Tharuhat-Tharuwan National Front (TTNF) demanding the release of Resham Chaudhary, a member of the House of Representatives, hit normal life in Udayapur district on Tuesday.
The first day of the two-day general strike called by the TTNF hit the vehicular movement, while schools and corporate offices too remained shut.
Cadres of the TTNF closed roadside shops in the market, and obstructed vehicular movement in the region on Tuesday.

Though boarding schools were shut, government and community schools were open. Likewise, motorcycles and short-route vehicles plied the roads in a few numbers.
In the meantime, the local administration had deployed Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel in a huge number to keep the situation under control.
Chaudhary was the accused main mastermind in the Tikapur incident that took place on August 24, 2015. In the incident, seven security personnel including SSP Laxman Neupane and a two-year-old had lost their lives in a clash between Tharuhat agitators and security personnel.
On March 7, 2019, Chaudhary was sentenced to life in prison, along with 11 other accused, for their role in the Tikapur massacre.
As per the decision of the Kailali District Court, Chaudhary will have to stay in prison till 2038. He is serving a jail term at Dillibazar Jail in Kathmandu.
