10 Nepalis honored for their contribution to boslter Nepal-Britain's relation

LONDON, July 24: The 11th anniversary of www.nepalbritain.com was celebrated amidst a colourful ceremony in London on Sunday (23rd July).

During the ceremony, ten personalities who had made outstanding contributions to the Nepali and British communities in the UK were felicitated. Top among them was Prof.  Padam Simkhada, Professor of International Public Health at the Public Health Institute and Associate Dean for Global Engagement at the Liverpool John Moores University. Prof. Simkhada was felicitated for his contributions to public health discipline in Nepal and the UK and helping to raise the standard of public health research in Nepal.

Ambassador of Nepal to UK, Dr Durga Bahadur Subedi, was also felicitated as ‘Diplomat of the Decade.’ Others who were felicitated included Lt. Colonel Tol Khamcha of the Brigade of Gurkhas and actress Jasita Gurung.

During the event, speakers including Yog Kumar Fagami, President NRN UK, former President of NRN UK Surya Gurung congratulated the news portal on completing a decade of its establishment and informing the Nepali community in the UK relentlessly.

The programme was opened jointly by chief guest and MP of Nepal’s federal parliament, Dr Surya Pathak, and Ambassador Dr Subedi.

Coordinator of the event, Ram Sharan Simkhada, said the programme was organised to highlight the contributions of social workers and academics who were serving the community. He said the online portal was committed to bring to fore other ‘unsung heroes’ who were serving the community.

Chair of the programme and Editor of www.nepalbritain.com, Chiran Sharma, thanked all the participants, readers of the online portals and patrons for their continuous support and encouragement.

The event was attended by representatives of various Nepali organisations in the UK, members of the media and other guests.
