KATHMANDU, Jan 6: A total of 46 members of the CPN-UML Godawari Municipality Committee in Attariya, Kailali, have resigned en masse, with 43 leaders and activists resigning, effective from December 26.

They mentioned that after the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) merged to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), they and the leaders and activists in the region felt enthusiastic. However, they stated that General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and some other leaders' continuous attacks on the People's War forced them to abandon the party.

On December 25, the CPN-UML Secretariat meeting took disciplinary action against party Vice Chairman Bhim Rawal, removing him from the status of a general member. Following this, 46 leaders and activists submitted their collective resignation on December 26, showing their support for Rawal.

Their resignation letter reads, "After the merger of the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) to form the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), both I and the leaders and activists in this region became enthusiastic. However, unity could not be sustained due to conflicts among the main leaders. At that time, most of the comrades here, who had undergone Maoist schooling, supported the line of then CPN Chairman KP Sharma Oli. We not only defended him on the streets but also continued to stay within the UML even after the court separated the UML and the Maoists.

“However, our understanding is that today's UML is a continuation of the NCP. But even within the UML, we have repeatedly had to endure humiliation, be politically labeled as former Maoists, and face contempt. We reached the conclusion that we can no longer stay in this tradition of internal factionalism against the central leadership. No one can deny the great revolution, the People's War, led by the then Maoists. The current republic, federalism, and inclusivity have all been built on the foundation of the People's War,” as mentioned in the letter.

The letter further reads, “Although the current UML policy aims to bring in as many members from other parties as possible, we no longer feel the need to stay here after the central leadership, especially General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and some other leaders, continuously attacked the People's War. Therefore, from today onwards, we, the undersigned comrades, have decided to abandon the CPN-UML."
