Hooligans obstruct tender process

BIRATNAGAR, June 3: Police on Sunday nabbed a dozen thugs from the premises of the District Development Committee (DDC). The thugs had gone there to disrupt the tender process opened by the DDC for the construction of a road and a bridge.



Those arrested by the police are Suresh Shakya of Urlabari-1, Keshav Acharya of Rangeli-1, Bishal Raj Rai and Rebat Basnet of Itahari-1, Nayan Acharya, Bhaskar Rai and Bishal Rai of Biratnagar-10 and Aashis Subbha of Dangihat-1. [break]



Others arrested but released by the police in the evening are Narendra Tamang of Pathari-1, Mohan Gurung of Belari-2, Gagan Rai of Urlabari-2 and Amrit Raj Joshi of Biratnagar-13 in the evening.



The District Police Office Morang said those arrested are hired hooligans who had been involved in such activities in the past as well. “We got a tip off about their intention to obstruct the tender process,” DSP Niraj Bahadur Sahai, said. He said that the police will file case against them after completing the investigations.



According to DDC officials, the hooligans obstructed them as they were about to open sealed quotations for a bridge over Singhia Khola in Biratnagar and for a road in Kerabari. Eleven contractors have placed their bids for the two tenders.
