SPORTS BRIEFS:Tamang to lead netball

KATHMANDU, May 26: Bir Bahadur Tamang has been elected unanimously to lead the Nepal Netball Association (NNA) for the next four years. The first general assembly of NNA held in the capital on Saturday elected a 15-member committee.



 Earlier, Manij Bhakta Shrestha was the president of ad hoc committee registered at the National Sports Council as 112th association.[break]



Tilak Bahadur Lama and Raju Shrestha have been elected vice presidents while Deepak Lama has retained the post of general secretary. Bhupendra Khadka is the new secretary and Dwarika Shrestha is the treasurer of the committee. Tek Kumar Rajbhandari, Dil Kumari Nepal, Kedar Khadka, Janak Prasad Neupane, Punam Lama, Sailendra Chiluwal, Tripal Lamal, Birbahadur Lama and Pramod Ghimire have been elected members.



One more vice president and nine members will soon be nominated for 27-member committee. Meanwhile, newly elected president Tamang informed that RJ Sports Center was the official jersey partner of NNA.



Pal, Shrestha into semifinal

KATHMANDU, May 26: Aakash Pal and Sujan Shrestha advanced into semifinal in men´s 40 kg during the 18th International High School Karate and Kick Boxing Championship underway in the capital. Sahil Rai and Rajesh Shrestha also booked semifinal ticket. In women´s 30 kg Apsara Moktan and Karuna Shrestha, Alisa Lama and Ayusha Shahi in 35 kg, Kusum Khadka and Punam Rai in 45 kg and, Rojita Ranjit and Sushmita Shrestha in 50 kg booked semifinal berths.



Sunita Lama and Samjhana Ghising in 55 kg, Manisha Moktan and Sirjana Sapkota in 61 kg, Sumittra Sulu and Sarita Shrestha in 68 kg booked places for last four. The second day of the event also featured competition among Nepali players only. The central high school committee of Nepal Siterio Karate Do Association is the organizer of the event.



Maharjan, Ghimire leaving for Qatar for treatment

KATHMANDU, May 26: Footballers Pradip Maharjan and Chetan Ghimire will leave for Qatar on Sunday for treatment of their knee injury. Though both of them have recovered from their injuries, they are not yet fully fit. All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) had initiated moves for their treatment.



"ANFA has made all the arrangements for treatment," former Nepali international Maharjan said. Both of them are optimistic of being fully fit after the treatment. "We received good treatment earlier in Nepal," Ghimire said adding, "But we hope to get better treatment in Qatar. I am eager to return to football as soon as possible."



Maharjan picked up injury during a friendly match in Thailand four years ago as part of preparation for AFC Challenge Cup. Ghimire was injured five years earlier during A division league match.



Sports climbing training kicks off

KATHMANDU, May 26: Special training for Sports Climbing Championship (lead climbing), a game included in the Third Asian Beach Games to be held from June 16 to 23 in Haiyang, China kicked off in the capital on Saturday.



Nepal Mountaineering and Rock Climbing Association started the two-week long training course for players competing in the championship. Mingma Sherpa, Hariram Khadka and Niraj Karki are the players while Lakpa Shepra is the coach for the event.



National Sports Council Member Secretary Yubaraj Lama and Pasang Lamhu Mountaineering Foundation President Kripasur Sherpa marked the beginning of training, handing over sports kits to players and coach.
