BHAKTAPUR, Aug 31: Following the decision of Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) not to give permission for new admission to those colleges lacking their own hospital of 50 beds, many nursing colleges are on the verge of closure.

The admission row surfaced after the parliamentary Women, Children and Social Committee immediately directed to invalidate the decision of CTEVT made in the presence of CTEVT Chairman and Education Minister Sarbendra Nath Shukla to allow the nursing colleges to announce admission if they sign agreements with 50-bed hospitals-either government or private-to conduct practical exercise. With the dispute staying on, 42 nursing colleges across the country may be closed anytime.

Principal of Khwopa Multi-Technical College run by Bhaktapur Municipality, Ganesh Ram Nehamhapuki, said the decision has badly affected his institution.

Stating that nobody should try to play with the future of nursing students, he said the nursing colleges should be allowed to announce new admission.
