Nobbs, Neric win title
KATHMANDU: Nobbs and Neric clinched the title of the Seventh Opel Valley Wide Inter School Basketball Tournament on Monday in senior boys´ 3X3 and junior boys´ category. In the final of senior boys´, Nobbs edged past host Opel 16-13 as Gaurav Tamang scored eight points. Nobbs took the first period 7-5 and the second 9-8 for the victory.
In the junior boys´ category, Neric overcame Odyssey School 36-25 with 14 points from Amrit Basnet. Prajwol Samba of Nobbs and Amrit Basnet of Neric were adjudged Most Valuable Player of the tournament in senior and junior categories respectively.
Lama fails to complete slalom race
KATHMANDU: Nepali ski player Bibash Lama failed to complete the first race of slalom event of ski in the Winter Youth Olympic Games, held in Innsbruck, Austria. Along with Lama, 10 among the 62 participants, failed to complete the 153-meter first race of the event on Saturday. With other 15 failing to complete the second race, only 35 players completed both the races of the slalom.
Earlier, Lama had completed both the races of giant slalom event on Thursday to remain on the 39th position. He remained on the bottom among the participants, who completed both the races of giant slalom event. Altogether 64 athletes had participated in the giant slalom event. Lama had completed 320-meter first race of giant slalom in 1 minute 42.29 seconds and the second race in 1 minute 31.39 seconds. Lama was the only Nepali athlete to participate in the Winter Youth Olympic Games.
Regional judo selection concludes
KATHMANDU: The central regional selection of the judo player for the upcoming Sixth National Games has concluded in Nuwakot on Monday. Altogether 18 players, 12 males and six females, have been selected from the Central Development Region for the national Games. Kush Kumar Shrestha (45kg), Rohan Thapa (50kg) from Nuwakot, Diwakar Basnet (55kg), Sanjay Maharjan (90kg), Alen Maharjan (below 100kg), Rajan Joshi (above 100kg) from Lalitpur, Saroj Maharjan (60kg), Ramesh Magar (66kg), Upendra Thapa (73kg), Deepak Shrestha (81kg) from Kathmandu are selected in the male category.
In female category, Sushmita Lawat (44kg) from Nuwakot, Nabina Lama (48kg), Pramila Roka (52kg), Sunita Magar (63kg) from Kathmandu, Ranju Rai (57kg ) from Parsa and Srijana Napit (below 70kg) from Lalitpur are selected for the national games. Narendra Kumar Dangol and Devendra Karmacharya from Kathmandu are selected in the Kata event. In the two-day selection, 70 players from 12 districts participated.
