KATHMANDU, Sept 28: A total of 39 individuals have died in eight districts, including the Kathmandu Valley, due to the disasters caused by continuous rainfall for the last three days.
Among the deceased, nine are from Kathmandu, 16 from Lalitpur, five from Bhaktapur, three from Kavrepalanchowk, two each from Panchthar and Dhankuta, and one each from Jhapa and Dhading, according to the police.
72 districts at risk of floods and landslides
According to the Lalitpur Police Office, the bodies of 16 people have been found in Lalitpur alone. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narahari Adhikari said that the status of 11 people is still unknown.
Similarly, according to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, nine people have died in Kathmandu district and five in Bhaktapur. The Armed Police Force of Nepal has deployed 1,947 security personnel for disaster response. Additionally, 23 rafting boats have been deployed by the Armed Police Force to rescue citizens affected by floods and inundation in various parts of the valley.
The Armed Police Force team has successfully rescued 760 people, according to co-spokesperson DSP Shailendra Thapa. In Bhaktapur's Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-1, Lokanthali, 18 children with disabilities receiving treatment at the Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital were rescued and relocated to a safe place as the hospital area is waterlogged.
