Altogether 114 lawyers on Thursday filed their applications to plead in support of the contempt of court application filed by presidents of three chapters of Nepal Bar Association based in Sunsari and Morang districts. [break]
They moved the court on Wednesday, accusing the daily newspaper of contempt of court by publishing news about the release of persons accused of abduction.
“We have formally urged our members to fully extend their co-operation in our decision to plead on behalf of the Biratnagar Appellate Court,” admitted Kumar Bhattarai, president of Biratnagar chapter of the Appellate Court Bar, adding, “However, we have not asked any of our members not to plead in favor of correspondent Dhakal.”
In the meantime, taking up a contempt court application, the Biratnagar Appellate Court on Thursday ordered Dhakal and Superintendent of Police Pradhumna Karki to appear before the court within three days.
A division bench of Judges Kumar Chundal and Shiva Narayan Yadav also ordered Editor-in-Chief of Nagarik Narayan Wagle and the publisher to appear before the court within seven days.
