Now Ministry of Local Development will distribute housing grant tranches to victims.
KATHMANDU, March 23: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has delegated the authority to spend Rs 9.95 billion to the Ministry of Federal Affairs to provide as housing grants for the families of earthquake victims.
Issuing a press statement Thursday, NRA said it has delegated its authority to spend the funds to the Central Program Implementation Unit of the Ministry of Federal Affairs in order to ensure that people building their houses through government grants do not face fund shortage.
The Ministry of Finance had provided the amount to the NRA, transferring the funds allocated under other budget heads, as per the policy of the government to give top priority to the reconstruction of quake-destroyed homes.
NRA spokesperson Yam Lal Bhusal said the authority was delegated considering the fact that demand for housing grants may increase as reconstruction work is being carried out expeditiously in the quake-hit districts.
Bhusal said that NRA is making all possible efforts to ensure that beneficiaries receive the second and the third tranches of the housing grant without any further delay.
As of Thursday, altogether 367,165 houses were under construction. Similarly, 311,703 quake victims have been verified for the third tranche of the housing grant. These beneficiaries can now receive Rs 100,000 as the third tranche of the housing grant.
NRA has asked all beneficiaries to claim the second tranche of the housing grant by mid-April. The reconstruction authority has also requested those receiving the first tranche of the housing grant, but not willing to build homes to return the money to the NRA. The District Coordination Committee has already issued a notice to this effect.
