Peace possible after new constitution promulgated: Sitaula

BHAKTAPUR, Oct 22: General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, said sustainable peace in the country is not possible before promulgating the new constitution.



Speaking at a tea party organized to extend greetings on the occasion of different festivals including Tihar, he said the promulgation of the new constitution will only help conclude the mission for peace.[break]



He said the main task at present is to maintain political stability for promulgating democratic constitution and expressed his confidence that the parties will soon forge national consensus. He added that the parties have reached closer to agreement for settling the present political impasse.



NC leader Sitaula said that the peace and constitution writing processes could not move ahead as expected as the Maoists failed to implement the past agreements, and made it clear that his party has not put forward any new conditions to the UCPN (Maoist).



Similarly, NC leader Bal Bahadur KC said the country has passed through a very serious condition due to the disruption of the development works.



"There is no law and order in the country; people are looted every day and development works are disrupted in the name of transitional period," said KC.
