Altogether eight candidates have filed their nominations for the party office bearers´ positions, including three for president, three for general secretary and two for the post of treasurer. While Sushil Koirala, Sher Bahadur Deuba and Bhim Bahadur Tamang have fielded their candidacies for the post of president, Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakash Man Singh and Narahari Acharya have filed their nomination for the post of general secretary. Chitra Lekha Yadav and Padma Narayan Chaudhari are the two candidates vying for the post of treasurer.
As per the NC statute amended by party mahasamiti meeting last year, there are a total 25 seats for the CWC member in the open category. Likewise, 14 members one each from 14 zones, six women, five each from dalits, Aadibasi/Janajatis, and Madhesi and one Muslim member are directly elected to the 85-member CWC body.
Each of these communities must ensure representation of at least two women candidates.
Of the total 85 members in the party´s central decision making body, the elected president is authorized to nominate 16 members besides one each from women, dalit, Aadibasi/Janajati, Madhesi and Muslim communities as a CWC member.

Altogether 99 candidates have filed their nominations for the post of 25 CWC members in open category.
They include Ram Chandra Poudel, Gopal Man Shrestha, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, Chakra Prasad Bastola, Mahesh Acharya, Shekhar Koirala, Shashank Koirala, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Kul Bahadur Gurung, Khum Bahadur Khadka, Dr Narayan Khadka, Govinda Raj Joshi, Purna Bahadur Khadka, Manamohan Bhattarai and Dr Minendra Rijal.
Youth leaders Gagan Thapa, Pradip Poudel, Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Guru Raj Ghimire have also filed their nominations in the open category.
However, only three women, including Sujata Koirala, Suprabha Ghimire and Dibyeshwari Shah have opted to contest for CWC members from the open category.
Likewise, 92 candidates have fielded their candidacies for the post of CWC members allocated for zones.

This includes three candidates from Mahakali, four each from Sagarmatha and Karnali, five each from Mechi and Janakpur, six each from Narayani and Lumbini, seven from Bagmati, and eight each from Seti and Dhaulagiri zones.
Likewise, altogether nine from Gandaki, 10 candidates from Koshi and 11 from Rapti zone have also filed their candidacies for CWC post allocated for the zones.
According to the final list prepared by the party´s Election Committee, altogether 40 candidates have fielded nomination for six reserved seats of CWC members for women. This includes Pushpa Bhusal, Kalyani Rijal, Kamala Panta, Maha Laxmi Upadhyay Dina, Ambika Basnet, Uma Regmi Adhikari and Rita Khanal.
Likewise, 52 candidates including 15 women have filed nomination for five reserved seats of Aadibasi/Janajatis.
Similarly, 30 candidates including five women candidates have filed their nominations for five seats reserved for dalits. The dalit women fielding candidacies include Sujata Pariyar, Kabita Kumari Sardar (Batar), Rajan BK, Radhika Bhujel and Asha BK.
NC closed session begins
The closed session of Nepali Congress (NC) 12th general convention kicked off on Saturday at Exhibition Hall, Bhrikuti Mandap.
According to Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Chief of the party´s Publicity Department, Saturday´s closed session endorsed political proposal presented by General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi. The political proposal deals with the party´s activities in the last five years.
The party´s plan and policy proposal prepared by a 21-member panel led by Sher Bahadur Deuba was also presented in the closed session.
The 58-page document incorporates contemporary political situation vis-à-vis NC´s view, NC´s economic and social plans and polices, international relations and concept on foreign policy and the party´s work plan on strengthening organization.
Deuba had presented a synopsis of the document and Mahesh Acharya read out first section of the document that dealt with current political situation and NC´s view on that.
According to Sitaula, general convention representatives will start debating on the document after the remaining sections of the document are read out during Sunday´s closed session.
Some 3,100 general convention representatives from across the country and abroad have arrived in Kathmandu to take part in the deliberations. Keeping in view time constraints, only one representative from each district will comment on document starting Sunday.
