Newly-elected Province Assembly Speaker, sworn in, assumes office

HETAUDA, Feb 10: Newly elected Speaker of the Province Assembly of Province 3 Sanu Kumar Shrestha has assumed his office in the Province Assembly Secretariat this evening. 

Prior to this, newly-elected Speaker Shrestha was administered oath of office and secrecy by State Chief of the Province No. 3 Anuradha Koirala. 

Assuming his office, Speaker Shrestha said that he would work together with all political parties to maintain the dignity of the Province Assembly by internalizing the country's constitution in letter and spirit for the lasting peace and stability. 

Earlier Saturday, the Province Assembly meeting of the Province No. 3 had elected Shrestha to the post of the Speaker unopposed. 

The senior-most member of the Province Assembly Dormani Poudel had tabled the schedule of the election in the meeting. 

Maoist Centre lawmaker Salikram Jamarkattel proposed Shrestha to the post while UML lawmaker Rameshwor Phuyal seconded to the motion of Jamarkattel. 

The 58-year-old Speaker is the permanent resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32 and was also the then President of Kathmandu District Development Committee. 

Likewise, today's meeting of the Province Assembly has approved the calendar for the election to the deputy speaker of the province at 2:00 pm Sunday, Secretary of the Province Assembly Secretariat Dr Rojnath Pandey said. 

As per the calendar, nomination time for the deputy speaker has been fixed from 11 am to 12 noon and table the election proposal in the meeting of the Province Assembly after 2:00 pm, the Province Assembly Secretariat said.
