KATHMANDU, Feb 2: A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court seeking its order to scrap the trade union rights for civil servants.

Advocates duo Ramraman Ghimire and Pashupatinath Banstola filed the petition on Thursday. The Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the Ministry of General Administration have been made defendants in the petition.

Claiming that Section 53 of Civil Service Act contradicts the Constitution, the petitioners called the apex court to nullify the Act's provision, which allows public servants to engage in politics.

The petitioners have claimed that the trade union rights should be given only to the workers and labors of private companies, firms and industries.
