Sri Lanka military to halt use of heavy weapons

KATHMANDU, April 27: Sri Lankan army said on Monday that it would halt use of heavy weapons in Tamil Tiger-held zone, BBC reported.



The news website did not give any further details.



On Sunday, the LTTE announced a unilateral cease-fire, urging the international community to pressure the Sri Lankan government into halting its campaign, saying the "humanitarian crisis can only be overcome by the declaration of an immediate cease-fire".
