The closure comes following a call by the trade union close to Maoist Vice-Chairman Mohan Baidya to press for its demands. [break]
The union has mobilized workers to force factories to down their shutters.
Internal talks were going on in some factories, said Chitwan President of All Nepal Revolutionary Trade Union Federation Chitwan Surya Baral.
According to him, around three dozen factories in Chitwan are not providing the increased salary to workers.
Businessmen say the agitation is illegitimate since decision to hike salary by Rs 1,600 was stayed by the Supreme Court. Bolters Nepal, Chitwan Milk, Rhino Feeds, Life Care, Snacks Food and Nepal Syntex are among those closed factories.
Workers say the closure won’t be lifted unless their demands are fulfilled.
Talks were underway to reopen the factories closed due to internal dispute among workers, said President of Chitwan Confederation of Industry Uttam Lal Chuke.
He said that the agitation launched after an agreement in the past with three trade unions has no meaning.
