Kathmandu, Aug 3: A month-long "Gunla" festival, one of the important festivals of the Newar Buddhist community has began from today.
On this occasion, a fair is held at the Swoyambhunath, the famous Buddhist shrine, for a month.
During the festival, Newar Buddhists recite the scriptures, observe fasts and visit places of worship playing devotional music. The festival is started in the month of Saun in the lunar calendar and goes for a month.
The Swoyambhunath Area Development Committee has arranged for medical and ambulance and drinking water facilities for the convenience of devotees visiting this shrine to observe the fair, Committee General Secretary Mahendra Ratna Buddhacharya said. RSS
