Kin demand martyrs' status to people killed in 1979

KATHMANDU, April 19: Relatives of seven people killed in police firing some 30 years ago have shut down Surkhet demanding that the government declare their kin as martyrs. Indra Bahadur BC, Nyaule Kami, Lal Bahadur Tamata, Hasta Bahadur Karki, Barna Bahadur Khatri, Barma Dutta Tiwari and Bahadur Kami were killed on May 29, 1979 when they were taking out a rally against Panchayati government’s atrocities, Nepal FM said. They were protesting against the "unbearable land tax" imposed by the government and police action against the agitators.
