SPORTS BRIEFS: Shining Star, Kantipur in QF

KATHMANDU, May 30: Shining Star and Kantipur entered into the quarterfinals in the senior category of the ongoing First Neric Cup Inter-school Boys Basketball Tournament. Shining Star outclassed Loyalty 43-22 while Kantipur thrashed Green Field 38-15 on the court of host Neric at Sankhamul on Monday.



Likewise, Wilson Academy defeated Angel Lord 47-18 and NOBS eased past Rose Bud 44-24 to book their berths in last eight. In junior category, Himalayan Help Care Academy (HHCA), Gaurishankar and AIA reached quarterfinals. [break]



Sumi Group supports Koilapani


KATHMANDU: Sumi Group on Monday donated Rs 50,000 to Koilapani Polestar, the cash-strapped first division outfit from Nawalparasi. Sumi Group proprietor Karma Ghale handed over the amount to Bishnu Adhikari, the club’s president. The club had earlier received Rs 100,000 from NCC Bank, Rs 25,000 from Dr Gopal Khanal, Rs 10,000 from singer Hemanta Sharma and Rs 10,000 from Constituent Assembly Member Sapana Pradhan Malla.



RR, Surkhet into second round


KATHMANDU: Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus (RR), Surkhet Education, Shanker Dev, Nepal Commerce and Public Youth Campus advanced into the second round of the Inter-campus National Volleyball Tournament on Monday winning their respective matches. The other colleges to win their respective matches were TU, Global, Jaya Multiple, Bhaktapur Multiple, Prithvi Narayan (PN), Mahendra Multiple and Butwal Multiple Campus. The event is organized by Free Students Union Council.
