The majority of youths and adults of Nayakwada, Rokayagaun and Ramidanda have left for Dolpa to collect the aphrodisiac herbs hitting the Election Commission´s bid to complete the process in time. [break]
The villages are virtually empty at this time every year with farmers, laborers, students and even teachers moving to Dolpa to collect the herbs due to the prospect of a substantial income in a short period of time.
District Election Office (DEO) said the process has hit a roadblock in the three VDCs making it difficult to complete the process by mid-June as planned by the Election Commission. “We are facing a great difficulty in registration process as only the elderly and children are left behind in the villages,” rued acting chief of DEO Shiva KC.
“Those sent for collecting voter list can´t find enough eligible voters in the villagers,” KC added.
The DEO had hoped registration of around 4,000 voters from the three VDCs--around 2,000 voters from Nayakwada, around 800 from Ramidanda and around 1,200 from Rokayagaun. But registration of even 1,000 seems unlikely at the current scenario, KC said. He said Nayakwada has been the hardest hit with registration of even 300 looking unlikely at the moment.
He said the target of registering around 58,000 voters in the district will not be met as people of other VDCs are also out of the district at the moment. The DEO revealed that the process has been completed in 12 of the 30 VDCs in the district.
Vice-president of Nepali Congress, Jajarkot Harish Kumar Karki demanded that the DEO should make another arrangement for registration of the voters who have been out of the district now.
