According to the police, the women were caught while they were trying to smuggle the drugs to Butwal.

“We believe the women were only being used as carriers,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mukunda Marasini. "After preliminary investigation, we have learnt that the women were promised Rs 1,000 to smuggle per kg of cannabis.”

Police Inspector Prem Bahadur Thapa said that the caught quantity of cannabis could fetch around Rs 750,000 in local black market.

“The price is higher in the international market,” said Thapa.
