The trios were smuggling the fake currency notes hiding them inside a piano parcel. The parcel which contained two pianos was being taken across the boarder. It had been brought to Kathmandu from Hong Kong via a Thai Airway light.
The police initiallly arrested Ranjit Jha alias Manohar Giri, from the Mahabirasthan-based DHL office, in Birgunj, while he was receiving the parcel. Acting on his statement, the police arrested Rameshwor Sahani Gothi and Mithilesh Tiwari in connection with the incident.
The seized fake currency haul includes 2,550 notes of Rs 500 denomination and 1,690 notes of Rs 1,000 denomination. SP Pitambar Adhikary, chief of the Parsa police said investigation into the case is underway.
