KATHMANDU, May 5: New Road Team (NRT) pulled consecutive victory in the ongoing Martyrs Memorial Red Bull A Division League Football Tournament as debutant Subash Gurung (Jersey No 15) scored a brace in 4-0 victory against United Youth Club at the Dasharath Stadium on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Swayambhu Club and G-Five Machhindra Club shared points with a 1-1 stalemate.[break]

Ashim Jung Karki opened NRT´s account in the 18th minute as his strike from the D-box line got deflected to a defender and met the net.

NRT then flourished attacks on United Youth´s post. However, Laxman Ruchal´s shot hit the pole in 22nd minute and two minutes later, Olyainka Edriske Hinoe´s header went inch wide in a corner off Ruchal. Saurav Shrestha shot inch wide from 30-yard distance in the 47th minute.

Gurung, who had played school level match at the Dasharath Stadium two years ago, was playing first match in the top flight on Thursday but still managed to steal the show in the second half of the game. Gurung met Jeetendra Karki´s shot in the 55th minute to head into the post as United Youth´s defenders thought they have trapped him offside.

“I´m happy to score two goals in my A Division debut, this is dream come true,” said Gurung, who is from Syangja district.

“I took a risk of fielding Subash in the playing set as our striker Bishnu KC is injured and he delivered in his debut match. I´m happy with him,” said NRT Coach Raju Kaji Shakya.

In the 81st minute Roshan Lamichhane crossed the ball and Gurung was again there in United Youth´s box to push it into the net with his chest.

Rajeeb Gurung replaced skipper Ruchal in the 82nd minute in the field and scored the NRT´s fourth goal in the injury time (90+3 minute) in a sublime cross off Olansile Sulaiman.

NRT Coach Shakya said that his team played better than the first match of the league. “Our team was not well set in the first match but we played better today (Thursday),” said Shakya.

United Youth created a single chance during the meet but Ravi Silwal shot wide in the open post as he collided with the advancing goalkeeper at the half-hour mark of the first half.

His counterpart Roshan Dangol said that his boys could not perform as per his expectation. “We have all local boys in the team and we are unable to feature foreign and top players because of financial crisis,” said Dangol.

In the early kick-off of the day, Swoyambhu gave tough time to Machhindra but was forced to share points.

Sunil Basnet gave Swoyambhu a lead in the 28th minute as he flicked the ball from the edge of the box and beat advancing Machhindra goalie Bishal Magar.

However, Bal Gopal Sahukhala, who recently came back to Nepal from his abroad study and joined Machhindra a week ago, leveled the match through a free kick in the 43rd minute.

In the second half, Machhindra custodian Magar Punched a Raj Kumar KC´s strike from 20 yard while a 25-yard free kick off KC sailed from just above the bar.

“We deserve to win the match but we couldn´t. Mistake from our goalkeeper and mistake in setting the wall during the free kick cost dearer,” said Swoyambhu Coach Raju Kumar Lama.

His counterpart Chhiring Lopsang said that his boys could not put up expected performance and played massive number of miss passes. “We should have won the match to avoid relegation threat since both teams have same level but I´m happy to open our account in the table,” said Lopsang.
