29 including 10 cops killed during protests against demarcation

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Minister for Home Affairs Bamdev Gautam on Sunday informed the House that 29 people including 10 security personnel have been killed till date in protests in different parts of the country against demarcation of provinces.

Minister Gautam said that among those killed, 17 are protesters and two are public.


According to him, 83 police and 112 agitators are injured.  

Likewise, protesters vandalized and set ablaze 43 government offices and 30 private houses, 24 government vehicles and 172 private vehicles, Minister Gautam briefed the House.

While addressing the parliament, Minister Gautam said the current protest in Tarai region is of different nature than before, adding that violent and anarchic activities are intended to gain control over state mechanism.

Hinting toward Madheshi leaders Upendra Yadav, Rajendra Mahato and Amresh Kumar Singh, Deputy Prime Minister Gautam expressed his fear that Tikapur incident was planned.

“Those leaders tried to provoke people and occurrence of such incident indicates that it was premeditated," he said.

He further directed security personnel to use as minimal force as possible and requested protesters to ensure that their demonstrations are peaceful.
