Chobi Mela: A trend - setting photo exhibition

KATHMANDU, March 22: Photo.Circle presented a selection of works from the recently held Chobi Mela on March 18 and 19 at The Bakery Cafe,Sundhara.



The works screened on 18th March were presented by Bangladeshi award-winning photographer Munem Wasif. [break]



The evening included works by Laurence Leblanc of France, Kosuke Okahara of Japan, Tamas Dezso of Hungary, Karen Knorr of Puerto Rico, Rashid Talukder and Munem Wasif from Bangladesh and eight other contemporary photographers from Bangladesh, including Rasel Chowdhury,Wahid Adnan, Anisul Hauqe, Tushikur Rahman, Kauser Haider, Arifur Rahman Munir, Sayed Asif Mahmud and Tapash Paul.



The screening on 19th March were presented by Bangladeshi photographer and photography teacher Tanzim Wahab.



The evening included works by students from Morten Krogvold’s of Norway, Bronek Kozka of Australia, David Burnett of USA, Shumon Ahmed of Bangladesh, Carlos Cazalis of Mexico, Abdoul Ganiou Dermani of Togo/ Germany and Sailendra Kharel of Nepal.







Chobi Mela took place from Jan 21 to Feb 3 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.



The Mela is an international festival of photography that takes place in Dhaka every two years.



This year, the festival featured artists from 31 countries showcasing works based on the festival theme, ‘Dreams’.



Featuring 29 print exhibitions, mobile exhibitions on 10 rickshaw vans, 33 digital presentations, nine workshops and several portfolio reviews, Chobi Mela serves as a birthplace of ideas and a meeting point for many artists.



It is an open portal to a mystical world of images showcasing new trends in photography and bringing to the fore issues of our troubled world.
