KANCHANPUR, August 28: Dr Govinda KC who is currently in Spatari, providing treatment to the flood victims, has said that he will continue his fight against the medical mafia by giving continuity to his hunger strike. 

Currently, Dr KC is treating about 500 flood victims after ending his relay hunger strike on August 15 which had lasted for 22 days. Dr KC has been working to provide relief to the flood victims and help them in the scorching heat despite his own ailing health.

Only 12 days have passed since Dr KC postponed his 11th hunger strike, seeking to help the flood victims. Despite his poor health condition, Dr KC has threatened to start his 12th hunger strike. 

“I will give a seven-day ultimatum to the government after I return to Kathmandu on Sunday to revoke the affiliation given to Kathmandu National Medical College (KNMC) by Tribhuvan University (TU).” He added that he will continue his hunger strike if the government does not rectify the mistake made by TU within the ultimatum.

Dr KC blamed the medical mafia for taking illicit tactics to provide affiliation to KNMC. He said, “I will fight against them as long as I live.”

On August 20, the senate and executive council of TU issued affiliation to KNMC, which is said to be lacking the basic infrastructure to meet the requirements for affiliation.

Three doctors - Dr Shristi Upadhyay, Dr Kashyap Shrestha and Narayan Kandel accompanied Dr KC in his trip to Saptari. His team distributed clothes, toothpastes, soaps and various food items to the elderly and children. Dr KC had bought flood relief materials worth Rs 100,000 including Rs 30 thousand for clothes.
