22nd Int'l Day of Senior Citizens on Oct 1

KATHMANDU, Sept. 27: The National Senior Citizens´ Federation has decided to felicitate senior citizens and hold its convention to mark the 22th International Day of Senior Citizen on October 1 in Nepal.



The felicitation programme would be addressed by Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai.



Federation Secretary Chhatra Pradhan said the Federation would take concrete step in honour of senior citizens after the convention.



With the progress in general health condition, the life expectancy is growing in Nepal thereby increasing the number of senior citizens.



According to the United Nations, there are 760 million people above the age of 60 years in the world, said Pradhan.



As per the 2068 census in Nepal, there are some 2.7 million elderly citizens while 1.5 million ten years back.
