PANCHTHAR, July 2: CPN (Maoist Center) has registered first victory in Mechi Zone in the second-phase local level elections held on June 28.
Maoist Center candidate Amar Raj Makhim has been elected as the chief of Miklajung Rural Municipality in Panchthar district.
Makhim obtained 3762 votes, compared to 3296 votes garnered by his closest rival CPN-UML candidate Dhan Kumar Phiyak.
Nepali Congress candidate Khadak Sundar Lawati finished third. He secured 2509 votes.
However, Maoist Center failed to clinch the post of deputy chief of Miklajung Rural Municipality. CPN-UML candidate Urmila Rai has emerged victorious in the race for the deputy chief. She defeated her closest rival Maoist center candidate Junu Lawati who garnered 3110 votes.
