While the filmmakers are experimenting different styles, the audiences are being served with a potpourri of eclectic films to tickle their fancy.[break]
After directing the run-off-the-mill films like Salaam Namaste, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Bachna Ae Haseeno, director Siddharth Anand has experimented with just two characters in his latest venture Anjana Anjani. The story of the film is not radical, it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, however, director Anand’s experiment doesn’t go to waste in terms of presentation.
Akash (Ranbir Kapoor) and Kiara (Prinyanka Chopra) are fed-up with their lives completely. Anjana (stranger) to each other, they both decide to jump off the New York Bridge to end all chapters of their frustrating lives.
Akash is an investment banker who’s a victim of bankruptcy and looses everything. His colleagues are mad at him and he has no family to look after him. Kiara has just gone through heartbreak. Her lifelong friend betrayed her and she sees no reasons ahead to live any longer.

The start of the film is crisp and easily grabs the audience’s attention. One almost believes that they are on a mission to commit suicide. But come interval and the story losses its punch. What ensues is the same old story of a guy falling for a girl, eventually deciding not to take their lives and the dawn of realization “life is too precious to waste for petty issues.” Too predictable, the story suddenly takes a cheesy turn.
Nevertheless, its heartening to see Ranbir and Priyanka encouraging each other to get over their deepest fears. Certainly, Anjana Anjana is a Hot and Sour soup for the college goers and I’m pretty sure that girls are going to be all Oooh-la-la over Kapoor.
As the movie proceeds further, the audience is served with impractical plots and scenes one after the other. Both Akash and Kiara completely broke, with less than 50 dollars in their pockets go on a vacation to Las Vegas, gamble in exotic casinos, and party lavishly. And of all the places in the world, they go on a tour to Atlantic Ocean without a penny to spare. Now, seriously is that even practical?
If you are not to ask these questions while you are watching the movie all that is left to do is “awww….God! Cuteness”.
Director Anand has directed the movie stylishly with so many exotic locations in the film. The presentation is worth mentioning.
Both Ranbir and Priyanka share an amazing chemistry on screen. Priyanka with her perpetual pout looks sizzling but the costumes let her down. Ranbir, on other hand, has done a commendable job and it shouldn’t come as a surprise if he bags some more adulating fans after this flick. He’s a perfect eye candy.
Music by Vishal and Shekhar is rich with the feel of amore. The cinematography is a major bonus. However, the predictable ending is a major downer.
Should I now say that the movie is a paisa wasool but nothing you and I have never seen before?
