Fake IRS 4 million seized, 7 held

KATMANDU, Sept 22: Police on Wednesday afternoon arrested seven persons for allegedly possessing fake Indian currency notes worth IRS 40, 91000 in the capital.



Five Nepali nationals and two Indian nationals were nabbed while exiting the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) where they arrived through a Thai Airways flight at around 1:30 PM.



Those arrested are Tek Bahadur Karki, 29, and Binod Khatri, 26, of Palpa, Aftab Ansari, 36, and Jokhar Mahato, 36, of Bara, and Birendra Shah, 23, of Parsa.



The two Indian nationals are identified as Mukhtar Ansari, 34, and Hasamuddin Miya Ansari, 34.



They had reportedly boarded the plane from Pakistan and had a transit in Bangkok, Thailand.



The fake notes seized are in the denomination of IRS 1, 000. “This is a new trend in fake currency smuggling,” said an investigative official involved in the raid.
