A team of Metropolitan Police Range Kathmandu arrested the duo from the office of ´Dreams and Ideas´ company at Teku. [break]The company has the domain ownership of www.givemehd.com through which Kasaju brothers had reportedly been operating the piracy business. Police said Kasaju brothers had been pirating the movies downloaded from internet violating copyright acts.
The www.givemehd.com has a list of thousands of movies and documentaries illegally downloaded using the electronic software Torrent. It even enlists documentaries produced by BBC, Discovery and National Geographic channels.
The Kasaju brothers, sons of Binaya Kasaju, chairman of the high-level information commission, had been pirating movies in packages worth Rs 15, 000 and Rs 25, 000. They also retailed movies, the police said.
Copyright Act 2002 prohibits illegal selling and hiring of audio-visual materials produced in countries that are members of World Trade Organization (WTO). Nepal became a member of WTO in 2004. Any violation of the act is punishable with a prison term of up to six months or a fine of Rs 100, 000.
Police raided the company´s office after a news report about the piracy business was published in www.nagariknews.com.
