He has collected 5 points after the completion of the sixth round and leads the table despite a draw with India´s International Master (IM) Himanshu Sharma on Sunday.[break]
Timoshenko played an attacking game using white set against Sharma who countered his moves to settle for a draw in the 49th move in the match organized by The Himalayan Chess Club at Hotel Mountain, Kantipath.
Sharma is trailing behind in the second position with four points along with GM Saidali Iludachhev of Uzbekistan, GM Georg Mohr of Slovenia and IM MR Venkatesh of India.
Saidali also settled for a draw with Indian GM Sriram Jha while Mohr defeated IM Saptashrishi Roy of India in the 37th move. Likewise, Venkatesh was able to ckeck-mate India´s FIDE Master (FM) Aksat Khamparia in the 32nd move.
Jha along with India´s IM Praveen Kumar, IM Atanu Laharia, Uzbekistan´s GM Marat Dzhumaev, Bangladesh´s FM Shakeel Abu Salim and India´s Prantik Roy are jointly in the third position with 4 points each.
Among the Nepali players, Uttam Raj Thapa and Niranjan Prajapati drew with Bangladeshi FM Mehdi Hasan and Slovenia´s Narcisa Mihevc-Mohr respectively. Thapa is ahead of other Nepali players with 3.5 points. Ganesh Man Duwal, Janadin Shrestha, Dharam Bahadur Lama and Laba Kumar Shrestha have 3 points each. Nepal´s FM Manish Hamal has 2.5 points after a draw with Prachanda Malakar. Meanwhile, Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali was defeated by Debaraj Chatterjee of Bangladesh.
