37 rescued safe from Koshi River boat capsize (updated)

SUNSARI, Sept 17: Thirty seven people were rescued while some are feared still missing as the boat  capsized in the Koshi River on Saturday.

SUNSARI, Sept 17: Thirty seven people were rescued so far while some are feared still missing as the boat capsized in the Koshi River on Saturday.


According to DSP Binod Ghimire of District Police Office, Sunsari, the accident occurred while the villagers were crossing the river in the boat from Sri Lanka Tapu  to Prakashpur VDC-5 of Sunsari district. 


The boat capsized in the Koshi River at 12:30 pm today.

As many as six boats and one motorboat are being used  in search of the missing people. Police said the continuous rain is creating hurdles to the resuce operation 


  It is yet to be confirmed how many people were in the 45-seater boat when the accident took place. 


Sri Lanka Tapu of Sunsari district is a small village which is two kilometers west of the eastern section of the Koshi River. 


The villagers have to use boat to cross the section of the river to come to Prakashpur VDC of the district.
