22, mostly children, missing from Dang in two months

NEPALGUNJ, May 27: Twenty-two people have gone missing from Dang´s western belt in the past two months. Among them, 14 are children under the age of 16. [break]



Following the incidents, police have initiated a public awareness campaign in Tulsipur and adjoining areas. The Area Police Post in Tulsipur confirmed that complaints were filed in all cases. But the police have been unable to trace the whereabouts of even a single individual.

Chief of the police post inspector Mohan Kumar Thapa said an increasing number of parents are coming to the post to file complaints about missing children. Police suspect the children are being taken to India via Nepalgunj and sold.


Most of the missing children belong to ´Dalit´ and Tharu communities.


Kunti Batha Magar, who was arrested three days ago on charges of selling children, confessed to police that she took five girls between 16 and 17 years of age via Rupahadiya customs and sold them in India. The girls were lured with job offers.
