KATHMANDU, Sept 3: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has taken over the bribery case involving two police officers who allegedly took Rs 200,000 from the son of a UML lawmaker, promising to get him recruited as a police inspector.

CIAA stated in a press statement on Friday that it had decided to start investigation into the case fetching the case file within 24 hours from the Nepal Police.

According to Nepal Police headquarters, sub-inspectors Surendra Acharya and Surya Bahadur Sunuwar posted at the Police Hospital had taken Rs 200,000 from Nawaraj Nepali, son of the UML lawmaker Govinda Nepali, on July 20.

The sub-inspectors in question were arrested by Nepal Police for investigation after the lawmaker Nepali lodged a complaint at the Police headquarters. Nepali, however, has been denying that he himself bribed the police officers for his son to get passed in the exams.

The issue surfaced after the lawmaker´s son flunked the written test. The alleged police officers had returned the amount to the lawmaker after the case reached the Police headquarters.
