NC's no to PM candidacy withdrawal

KATHMANDU, Sept 2: The Nepali Congress (NC) on Thursday has decided not to withdraw its candidacy for prime minister.



A parliamentary party meeting of the party held at Singha Durbar made decided not to withdraw its prime ministerial candidacy till the current process of electing a new prime minister reaches its logical end. [break]



NC maintained that the withdrawal of candidacy without reaching agreement on issues related to peace process, constitution drafting and government leadership would lead the country toward further uncertainty.



According to NC PP Spokesperson Nabindra Raj Joshi the meeting has decided to ask CPN-UML and Madhesi parties to vote for NC prime ministerial candidate Ram Chandra Poudel. “Nepali Congress is deeply concerned over the prolonged political deadlock in the country,” he told media persons after the meeting.



The sixth round of voting for the prime minister is scheduled for September 5.



Talking to media persons, Poudel said there is no point in withdrawing his candidacy. “Everything will be settled once the Maoists severe their ties with arms and renounce politics of violence,” said Poudel.



Among other things, the PP meeting has decided to ask each lawmaker of the party to donate a minimum of Rs 15,000 for the upcoming 12th General Convention. The central working committee members have been asked to provide Rs 30,000 for the purpose.
