KATHMANDU, June 11: The meeting between the ruling parties and RJP-N that began earlier today at the office of Prime Minister in Singhadurbar is going on.

The meeting is expected to forge consensus between the ruling parties and Madhes-centric parties.

Leaders from RJP-N and the ruling parties are taking part in the meeting called by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

RJP-N leaders who are attending the meeting include Mahantha Thakur, Sarad Singh Bhandari, Mahendra Raya Yadav and Anil Kumar Jha.

Likewise, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, senior Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel, CPN(Maoist Center) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Nepal Democratic Forum chairman Bjiaya Kumar Gachchhadar are representing the ruling parties at the meeting.

“The meeting is focused on how to bring RJP-N on board the local level elections. We are not in a position to accept their demand that an umbrella be made their election symbol at the moment", said NC leader Bimalendra Nidhi .

"The meeting will revolve around the option of choosing one of the six symbols that they had independently prior to merger as well as that of  amending the local level election act through fast-track approach for making this option consistent with election law” , added Nidhi .

The meeting held on Saturday ended inconclusively after the ruling parties turned down the proposal to reschedule the second-phase local level elections again floated by RJP-N.

RJP-N has also been reiterating its stance on the need for increasing the number of local units.
