NC leader wants withdrawal from PM race

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary K B Gurung said Saturday that NC should withdraw its candidacy for post of prime minister to resolve the current political deadlock.

Talking to Republica over phone, Gurung said NC should be ready to help end the deadlock as the Maoists have already said they are ready to withdraw if the NC chooses does so too. "We can not afford to prolong the deadlock," he said.

Gurung´s remarks come at a time when NC has flatly rejected the Maoists´ proposal to withdraw the candidacies. "NC can not say that it can not withdraw its candidacy," he said. "NC should withdraw its candidacy for the sake of the country and its people."

Gurung argued that NC CWC meeting decided to field candidacy of Ram Chandra Poudel for prime minister. "NC should be ready to withdraw its candidacy as the party as a whole will have to bear the blame for the prolonged deadlock," he added.
