Controversy mars Coca-Cola Cup

KATHMANDU, Aug 11: Controversy marred the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Boys´ National Football Tournament on Wednesday. Thekaraj Secondary School, Kailali left the field during their match against Shramik Shanti Higher Secondary School, Lalitpur protesting against the referee´s decision.[break]



Thekaraj´s fans and players claimed that referee disallowed a legal goal from their side and left the field.



Meanwhile, organizer All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) declared the 2-0 win for Shramik Shanti after Thekaraj left the field and awarded three points, which took Shramik Shanti to the semifinals of the tournament.



Meanwhile, Haraincha Model Secondary School, Morang and Birendra Sainik School, Bhaktapur also secured berth in the semifinals of the tournament. Haraincha thrashed Gandaki Boarding Higher Secondary School (GBS), Kaski 5-2 in the last match of group B. Awinash Bhujel and Prawin Gyanwali scored two goals each for Haraincha while Santosh BK added a goal more. Santosh Timalsina and Karan Gurung were the scorer for GBS.



Likewise, Birendra Sainik struggled past Environment Higher Secondary School, Rupandehi 2-1. Sanjeeb Ranamagar opened Birendra Sainik´s account in the second minute of the match. Bibek Dangi equalized the scoreboard in the 48th minute to give hope to Environment. However, Tirtha Bahadur Khatri struck a winning goal in the injury time of the match and took Birendra Sainik to the last four.



Siddhartha Vanasthali School, Kathmandu have already secured semifinal berth.



Semifinal matches of both the girls´ and boys´ category will kick off on Friday.
