KATHMANDU, March 13: The Kathmandu District Court on Friday ordered the police release detained journalist Rishi Dhamala on general date in murder and abduction cases.

Judge Udaya Prakash Chapagain passed the order after two days of consecutive hearings. However, the judge ordered detention for other co-accused– Ram Shuvak Mahato, Manoj Mahato and Birendra Kumar Mahato. [break]

Despite the court order, Dhamala will remain in jail due to the order of the Kathmandu District Administration made in February. The administration had ordered detention for Dhamala and the co-accused until arm and ammunition charges against Dhamala are finalized.

In the meantime, Dhamala’s lawyers said they are filing a plea against the Kathmandu District Administration´s order at the Patan Appellate Court on Sunday.
