KATHMANDU, May 30: A high-level team of the CPN (UML) has today reached the Election Commission to draw the attention of the Election Commission to carry out investigation into Chitwan incident regarding tearing of some ballot papers of Bharatpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 19.

The team comprising party chairman KP Sharma Oli, senior leader Jhalanath Khanal and leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, among others, visited the Chief Election Officer, Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and commissioners at the EC Office at Kantipath and said that result could be announced counting the remaining votes by keeping the torn ballot papers separately as question would be raised over election system and its norms and value if re-voting was carried out in the name of the incident.

After the meeting, Deputy-leader of the CPN (UML) Parliamentary Party, Subas Nembang, said the incident should not be interpreted as the vote counting centre being under seize as the security personnel have taken those involved in tearing the ballot papers under control and that there is a legal provision of going for re-polling only when the voting centre or the ballots have been seized.

He said, "Conspiracy has been plotted for re-voting by carrying out such incident at a time when there is guarantee of victory of CPN (UML) mayoral candidate Devi Gyawali in Bharatpur Metropolitan City." RSS
