“I request the number one applicant (Dahal) to withdraw his candidacy in the first place if he wants national consensus. If he does not do so, both the candidates should withdraw their candidacies,” said Oli while speaking at a program organized by Informal Service Sector Center (INSEC) on Sunday. [break]
Dahal and Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel are contending for the post of prime minister in the voting scheduled for August 2.
Suggesting Dahal not to waste time in the voting that will not yield any result, Oli said, “We should not waste time as we only have ten months and two days to promulgate the constitution and conclude the peace process.”
Oli said no candidate would emerge victorious no matter how many times the election is held, unless Dahal withdraws his candidacy. “I suggest let us not do something that would make your names appear in the pages of Guinness book,” Oli said.
He said giving up its intention to lead the government would be in the best interest of the Maoists. “If you lead the government, your guerrillas will press you with demands that you cannot address,” Oli said.
