"EU Heads of Mission (Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, United Kingdom and European Commission) and the representative of The Netherlands in Kathmandu are deeply concerned over developments which risk undermining the peace process in Nepal," said a statement issued by the Embassy of Finland in Kathmandu. The Finnish embassy holds the local Presidency of the EU in Nepal.

"In our view, the recruitment campaigns carried out by the Nepal Army and the Maoist Army are a violation of the spirit of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and pose a serious threat to the peaceful democratic future which the Nepalese people have fought so hard for," said the statement.

The EU has called on the government and the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) to ensure the discharge of the disqualified Maoist army personnel goes ahead without further delay. "We encourage them to move forward on addressing the future of the Maoist army combatants, drawing on the support of UNMIN as needed," said the statement. "We particularly urge them to expedite the discharge of disqualified minors in accordance with previous commitments made by the Unified CPN(Maoist) and as required by international law."
