ITAHARI, July 17: A woman who was illegally ferried to Kuwait through India has now returned home following intense torture from a fellow Nepali on instruction of the employer.

Dhan Kumari BK, 36, had gone to Kuwait in February in a sprightly state but has returned two weeks ago as a feeble patient and without her remuneration for six months of hardship. [break]

"She was healthy while leaving for Kuwait. There is no way to console as she has returned a deformed person. And to add to it, she lost the hard-earned money," Yam Lal Sundas, a neighbor said.

BK´s husband Purna Bahadur, a daily wage laborer, is now out of work as he has to collect money for wife´s treatment. "We are finding it difficult even to feed the children as I have stopped working on daily wages," Purna Bahadur said. The locals have helped him collect over Rs 5,000 through donations for her treatment.

BK claims that a Nepali with Bam surname tortured her during her Kuwait stay. "I do remember his initial tortures but only remember coming back home after that," BK, who had earlier worked in Kuwait as domestic help for three years, said.

Local agent of Itahari, Kamala Basnet (Rai) had sent her to work in an office in February. Basnet has been sending women to Kuwait through Alisa Poudel of Sharanamati, Jhapa and her (Basnet´s) younger sister Sumitra Rai who have set up an office in Kuwait.

"I worked in three houses during the period and have been sent back following torture," she added. BK said Muna Bhujel of Jhapa who was also sent by Basnet has also been sent back with her following torture.

Basnet admitted that she illegally sends women to Kuwait. "I don´t go around looking for women. I send only those who come to me requesting for Kuwait jobs," Basnet told myrepublica.com.

"I have even helped some with money while sending them," she claimed. "Poudel and my sister sent me 200 Kuwaiti dinars for a woman," she said but said she was not responsible for the women´s fate in Kuwait.
