There are thousands of applications for both iOS- and Android-powered smartphones. From apps of banks to e-commerce platforms, they have become a part of daily life with the growing use of smartphone and the Internet. 
 

Tootle/Pathao 

Tootle is a motorbike ride-sharing app from a Nepali start-up that is gaining popularity in Kathmandu in recent years. This app matches passengers with the bikers who are on their way and want to give a pillion ride. Pathao is another ride-sharing app from Bangladesh that started its operation in Nepal in September 2018. Available both in Apple's iOS and Google's PlayStore, these apps make transportation easier, affordable and convenient for passengers in the Kathmandu Valley who are troubled by crowded public vehicles, overpriced cabs and traffic congestions. 

eSewa/Khalti/IMEPay 

eSewa along with Khalti and IMEPay are the home-grown mobile and digital wallets that are popular among smartphone users to pay, send and receive money online. These digital wallets have not only run aggressive promotional campaigns to tap into growing internet and mobile penetration, but also helping towards making the society depend less on the use of cash. These apps are available in both iOS and Google's Play Store. 

Hamro Patro/Nepali Patro 

These two apps, which can be downloaded in iPhones and Android smartphones, are Nepali calendar with additional features. Apart from Nepali dates, time and festivals, these apps allow smartphone users to get news feeds, convert currencies and read horoscopes. With millions of downloads, these apps have helped to get connected with Nepali festivals, dates and other updates. 

Hamro Keyboard 

This app provides a keyboard for smartphones to type Nepali text. Downloading this app on the smartphone, both with iOS and Android, you can write in Nepali in any app, be it Facebook or Twitter or just SMS, ending the hassle to copy and paste the text. Recently, there are also similar apps available that enables smartphone users to type in Nepali. 

Foodmandu

This app is for food delivery services. With just a few taps and clicks, this app delivers various dishes at your doorsteps. Lately, there are also other food delivery apps like Bhojdeals, Foodmario and Bhok Lagyo that are based in Kathmandu. These apps either use their own channels to deliver food from hundreds of restaurants they use or provide these restaurants a platform to connect with their customers. 

Hamro Hospital

Hamro Hospital is an android application providing information about hospitals and doctors. It also has unique features such as appointment notification and medicine alarm notification. Through the application, patients can fix appointments with doctors at the available hospitals. The application, with over 10,000 downloads on PlayStore, has partnered with more than 100 hospitals and 2,000 doctors. 

Merostudy

Merostudy, an educational application, provides an update of results, notice, news and information published by Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, Kathmandu University, Loksewa, among others. It also provides learning materials to the users. The application, developed by Agile Education Pvt Ltd, has been downloaded more than 10,000 times on Google Play.

Park KTM

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), in collaboration with Wheels Truly Yours Pvt Ltd, has started smart parking service in different places of the capital. As getting a parking space is a tough job for Kathmanduites, this application can be a blessing. Released in April 2019, it has already been downloaded more than 5,000 times. Through the application, the users can book a parking space in New Road, Bishal Bazar, Indra Chowk, Durbar Marga, among other places.

Nepali Dictionary

This app has a dictionary with features of both Nepali to English and English to Nepali words. Those who want the meaning or translation of English to Nepali, or vice versa, can download this app. Its free and offline application available both in app store of iOS and Android's Google Play. There are also other apps like Shabdakosh Nepali Dictionary that are similar to Nepali Dictionary.

This application is a must try for easy delivery services.

connectIPS

A product of Nepal Clearing House, this is a single payments platform that allows customers to link their bank accounts to enable payment processor, fund transfer and credit payments. This app also aims at supporting citizen-to-government (C2G), customer-to-business (C2B) and peer-to-peer (P2P) payment transactions directly from/to the bank accounts. 

Nepse

This is one of the most useful apps for stock market investors. Developed by Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse), this app brings real-time stock exchange data in your smartphone. Available both in iOS and Android, this app provides daily updates on the country's only stock exchange market along with floor sheet, share price, total turnovers, top traded shares, total transactions and live trading data. 

Loksewa Nepal

For those who are planning or preparing for a government job, this is one of the apps that they should have in their smartphone.  It acts as a single solution for notices, notes, practice, questions, online test and other materials for the preparation of Lok Sewa exam conducted by the Public Service Commission, Nepal. 

NetTv/WowTime

Both the applications are similar in nature, and operate IPTV. Through these applications, users can watch live television on their smartphone. Both the apps have been downloaded more than 100,000 times. These applications streams Nepali as well as international television channels. Meanwhile, some channels in both the applications can only be accessed after subscription.

Traffic Police App

This application provides information about the state of traffic in the capital. Likewise, the users can also register their complaints; get traffic-related news and information, traffic rules, among others through the application. Downloaded more than 50,000 times, the application also airs Metro Traffic FM, which gives information about traffic-related news and updates.

Driving School 2020

Driving School 2020 helps you learn to drive. This driving simulation game also includes written tests and traffic signs. It allows users to play the latest driving school game for free. Playing this game regularly will help you become comfortable with the driving trial track and master your driving skills. 

Blood Members Nepal

This is a free Android application to search for blood donors or donate blood easily and quickly in emergency cases across major cities in Nepal. With a theme of 'blood bank in your fingertips', this maintains a database of blood donors who could be willing or volunteer to donate blood during urgency. The request made by those who seek blood in the 'Chahiyo' section of the app is also shared through its Facebook Page "Club 25 Nepal".

Thegana

Thegana Services is an app that aims to provide electronic address to people, businesses and government agencies. Available in both iOS and Android, this app allows you to register your local address and get a digitally Thegana code which can be shared.
