The construction of toilets is expected to curb the high dropout rate among girl students. The MoE has expedited the work of building the toilets following complaints from girl students about difficulty in attending classes, especially during menstrual periods, due to the lack of toilets. [break]
“Lots of girl students, especially of grade IX and X, complained about the difficulty they faced every month,” District Education Officer Hari Gautam said, adding, “We, therefore, decided to construct separate toilets for girls with room for dress change.”
Teachers have praised the DEO´s decision to construct separate toilets for girls.
“We had long been pressurizing for separate toilets for girl students,” Shakuntala Sharma, Vice-president of Baglung Teachers Union, said. “We hope now the girl students will not have to skip classes during their menstrual periods.”
The DEO has allocated Rs 79.6 millions for construction of the toilets.
